Upcoming events in Gladstone, and a little politics
Gladstone Conservation Council supports policies of diversity, equality, inclusion and accessibility, as well as the rights of First Nations people in Australia and around the world. We will never support fascism in any form and are taking steps to divest from platforms which support it.
Editorial
My friends,
we have a couple of events in our region coming up which we would like to promote.
One is a joint event organised by Queensland Conservation Council and Queensland Community Alliance - a community conversation.
The other is a panel discussion about where the renewable transition is at generally, and what that means for our region.
Links to register for each of these are below.

We hope you have enjoyed the last of our summer rain, and that the cyclone didn’t affect you too badly. I am certainly enjoying the drop in temperature and the start of our better weather.

The news from the US continues to be appalling, and I very much fear for the future of their National Parks and public lands.
Still, it is good to see that all the fight hasn’t gone out of people, and a flurry of court cases, marches and other more drastic actions may yet turn the tide.
Meanwhile, I just want to find a drinkable cola which isn’t owned by a US corporation. You can have a look at this emerging market here: https://www.broadsheet.com.au/featured/aussie-cola-wars
Much love,
Anna

On behalf of Queensland Community Alliance and Queensland Conservation Council, we’d like to invite you to Our renewable future: a Gladstone Region community conversation on March 27.
Gladstone is at the forefront of the renewable energy transition, but with so many moving pieces, it can be hard to know what is happening and what the future will look like. We want to bring our community together to discuss the energy transition, renewable energy and what positive outcomes for our region could look like.
We will invite experts and leaders in our community to present what is happening, and share facts and stories of our experiences. This is an opportunity for education and conversation and everyone is welcome.
Held at Ward’s Brewery on March 27th with people arriving from 5.30 for a 6pm sharp start, the evening will consist of presentations and small group discussions, and a variety of ways for attendees to take action. We’d be delighted if you could attend.
Please visit our website to register your attendance.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely
Emma & Elise

From Amanda Cahill - The Next Economy
I’m not sure if you’ve all heard, but we are hosting an event at CQUniversity on Thursday the 3rd of April, from 5-7pm, off the back of the launch of our book: Regional Energy Transitions in Australia: From impossible to possible. And we’d love you to be a part of it!
The event is designed as a panel discussion (between Dr Cal Devney from CQU, Mayor Matt Burnett and myself), exploring where the energy transition is currently at, and what support regions like Gladstone need to manage the complex and shifting context around energy.
The other events we have run (in Melbourne, Sydney, Latrobe Valley and Newcastle) have been really well attended and have led to some deep, challenging, yet positive conversations, with lots of interaction with the audience.
I was wondering if you could please promote the event to your networks, to make sure we have a good mix of people there for the conversation?
The event info and registration page can be found here:

Federal Election
This National Press Club address about the Climate 200 movement was really interesting and gave us a clearer perspective about who funds it, and how it is organised.
Please note that Gladstone Conservation Council doesn’t endorse any political party or candidate.
